At Sycamore Short Stay School, we're committed to equipping our students with the skills they need to thrive in the 21st century. That's why we're proud to be part of the Skills Builder Partnership, a national initiative focused on developing eight essential skills crucial for success in education, employment, and life.
The receiving, retaining and processing of information or ideas
The oral transmission of information or ideas
The ability to find a solution to a situation or challenge
The use of imagination and the generation of new ideas
The ability to use tactics and strategies to overcome setbacks and achieve goals
The ability to set clear, tangible goals and devise a robust route to achieving them
Supporting, encouraging and developing others to achieve a shared goal
Supporting, encouraging and developing others to achieve a shared goal
These skills aren't just taught in isolation; they are woven into the fabric of our curriculum. While students will experience dedicated Skills Builder lessons, they will also develop and practice these skills across a range of subjects. For example, debating historical events develops speaking and listening skills, designing a science experiment fosters problem-solving and creativity, and working on a group project enhances teamwork and leadership.
By integrating the Skills Builder framework throughout our curriculum, we ensure that our students not only gain knowledge but also develop the essential skills they need to become well-rounded, successful individuals prepared for the future. We believe this approach provides a strong foundation for their academic journey and beyond.
Pupils targets are based around the Skills Builder framework, and these are communicated with parents when pupils progress towards the eight essential skills are reviewed.
